“Charm Offensive” by Andrew Jenner

The flamboyance and fluidity exhibited in the approach of the silver-clad figure represents a bold challenge to the traditional masculinity of which these dolls were originally created to represent. Despite the potential of a violent response, this character exerts a powerful dominance.

Andrew creates artworks using unwanted and discarded dolls, many of which he finds in charity shops. He either dismantles them and combines their parts to make composite beings, or presents them in ways that contradict their intended purpose.

Andrew began working with dolls in 2022 when he became a volunteer at his local charity shop. Presented with a myriad of donated dolls he started to make compositions simply for fun and since 2023 has been exhibiting his work in group exhibitions in the UK. Andrew particularly enjoys creating works from items he salvages from the bin.
