“Sunday in the Park With George” by Andrew Jenner

The 'Action Man' dolls in this piece were originally created to represent traditional masculinity through their association with the Armed Forces which at the time banned queer people. Subversive queer interaction and ‘adult baby role-play’ is presented here between donated dolls dressed in vintage doll clothes salvaged from the bin.

Andrew creates artworks using unwanted and discarded dolls, many of which he finds in charity shops. He either dismantles them and combines their parts to make composite beings, or presents them in ways that contradict their intended purpose.

Andrew began working with dolls in 2022 when he became a volunteer at his local charity shop. Presented with a myriad of donated dolls he started to make compositions simply for fun and since 2023 has been exhibiting his work in group exhibitions in the UK. Andrew particularly enjoys creating works from items he salvages from the bin.
